December Drill The December Drill is called the 5X5 drill. For this drill, fire 5 rounds at a 5 inch circle from 5 yards in 5 seconds or less. Sounds very easy, but do it 5 times in a row (total of 25 rounds) and see if you can do it without dropping any rounds! Printable Target Check out the link below for more details. Try it this month and let the group know how it went. If you can’t get out to the range, set this up in your living room and dry fire it! Whatever you do, make sure you are making the time to get out and train! 5 x 5 Shooting Drill

Training: OIS Interview

Trainer: Deputy Romick/Director of Training Moore

Constables,

We are trying something that we have never done before.

We had a fantastic in depth interview-style training session focused on the critical elements surrounding an officer-involved shooting. This session will cover the physical and mental preparation leading up to such an event, the immediate aftermath, and key tactical considerations for responding to an active shooter. The conversation will be led by our Director of Training, Scott Moore, in a one-on-one interview with Deputy Romick, who navigated these challenges firsthand on June 14th of last year. Through candid discussion and shared experience, we aim to enhance readiness, decision-making, and officer safety in high-risk environments.

About Deputy Romick:

Deputy Romick has served with the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office for four years, spending three of those years on uniformed patrol in West Greenville. He is currently assigned to the Community Action Team in West Greenville and is an active member of both the GCSO Search and Rescue and Peer Support Units. Before his law enforcement career, Romick served five years on active duty with the 101st Airborne and now serves as a Civil Affairs Team Sergeant in the Army Reserves. In 2024, he received the Distinguished Service Award for the rescue of a downed paraglider on June 1st. Thirteen days later, he was involved in a critical incident while responding to a high-priority 911 call.

This is a valuable opportunity to gain insight, ask questions, and better understand the realities of high-risk encounters. You don’t want to miss this one.

Blood Borne Pathogen Training:

Our May meeting will be focused on medical training. We will run through BBP and Stop the Bleed concepts. If you cant make the meeting, please use the BBP from the line of duty website, get the certificate and send that to SLED. The line of duty episode that works to check the BBP box is Vol 6 (V06P11). For those attending the live training, we will have paperwork for you.

Legal Update:

Legal Update is available on the SLED training site. If you haven’t done it yet, please try to knock that out soon. Training passwords can be found at the bottom of these monthly emails for your reference.

BMW Pro Am Tournament:

Please go ahead and save the dates for the 2025 BMW Pro Am - June 5-8. As most of you know, this event is the biggest income generator for the association and allows us to better serve you, as you serve our community. We are making some changes this year in order to reward you for helping out and to make it more fun while you are there. All that to come soon, but for now please work on clearing your schedule and and opening up time to serve during those days! Contact Scott Moore and I ASAP if you are able to help out.

Firearms Qualification:

We have two Constable Firearms Qualification dates on the schedule. Please plan to make it to one or the other of these if you are not qualifying with your agency in 2025.

  • Chief Powers of SCC will be holding a firearms qualification for our Association members on April 17th at 10AM. This qualification will take place at the GSP range. Please RSVP to Constable Kosco at koscod@sccsc.edu if you want to attend or if you have any questions.
  • GCSO will be holding a firearms qualification for us on June 7th at 8AM. This qualification will take place at the Advanced Training Center located at 150 Thurston Rd Taylors, SC 29687. Bring 50 rounds of ammo and $25. RSVP to our Director of Training, Scott Moore at smoore@upstatescconstables.org if you want to attend or if you have any questions.

I hope to see all of you on Monday, March 17th at our monthly meeting.

Stay safe but dangerous,

Kyle Price
